Clarion was hired by the bonding company to complete the award winning design after the low-bid GC stalled on the project and ultimately went out of business. Clarion ratified, replaced and ‘propped up’ existing subcontractors as required to complete the project under a CM contract. The technology driven design by Ross Barney Architects is giving Oakton College a competitive edge. Its classrooms and laboratories (two stories and almost 60,000sf) are flooded with natural light, saving energy and creating a pleasant environment for students. On the inside: a state of the art Green under floor air distribution system was designed for the Tech labs. On the outside: an aggressive design using metal panels, glass and masonry on the addition plays nicely with the original structure.
At the 2008 AIA Design Excellence Award Night, the project was issued a Distinguished Building Award, Citation of Merit.
